Six of seven sufferers with SCID-X1 had normal TREC levels 7.3 to 10.7 years after therapy; these values were much like those observed a decade after hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation in 9 of 11 surviving patients with SCID-X1.6 As opposed to the findings in the 1st couple of years after treatment,9,10 transduced B lymphocytes and myeloid cells were no longer detected 6 to 10 years after gene therapy, indicating that no transduced functional progenitors or stem cells persisted in the individuals’ bone marrow. Nevertheless, the persistence of TREC+ naive T cells and their reappearance in individuals who had undergone chemotherapy 3 to 6 years after gene therapy strongly claim that T-cell progenitors persist and assure sustained thymopoiesis. Is the number of failed abortions high or low? No procedure is flawless, and both a surgical and a medical abortion may fail. Whenever we summed up a larger set of data based on 700 patients, the number of successful abortions was approximately ninety-five per cent. The more we focus on this, the more we learn, and the amount of surgical treatments accordingly decreases. We're learning how to interpret when an abortion is incomplete and we become more patient, thinking that this will type itself out.
